You know something, all my years as a JW, I've never been excited or looked foward to conventions or assemblies, or even much cared for the happenings in WT land because it was all just so blah blah blah to me considering I'm a born in. Now though as an apostate, I get all giddy inside thinking about what the new releases are going to be, what Noo Lite is going to be shared. Crazy!!!

There's so many posters I envy when it comes to various qualities. Terry's courage to go head first questioning certain things that most people simply don't have the tenacity and endurance to explore.
Undercover's reasonableness and level headedness. There's been some heated threads I've been a part of and I wish I would have had the level headedness he has when it comes to debating and discussing inflammatory topics. He's like an online ice-pack.
JamesWoods, when it comes to political discussions. He sticks to his guns when it comes to what he believes in, but he's not so rigid that he can't see the other side. That's more than I can say regarding some of our conservative political trolls. There's a part of me that doesn't believe they've ever been associated with JWs and they use this forum to seek out potential voters.
There's others but the Tanqueray and Ziti is hindering my thinking ability.

Crimes committed by JWs
by Black Man inhey all, i'm still embroiled in my ongoing debate w/a few jw's and now we're on this tangent where they are saying that jws are the most peaceful and law abiding people in comparison to other religious people.
i said that's not true, there's been many news articles that detail various crimes committed by jws.
i couldn't find anything right away when i did a google search, so can someone point me to some threads or links that contain recent and past articles of jw's in trouble w/the law or who have committed crimes?.

These links have tons of stories. I've never seen this website before. I found it after reading your question and trying to track down the Kelle Jarka case. I believe this guy is an elder. He's the service overseer in prison now I think.
This guy was an elder multiple times, multiple pedophile too. On the top 15 most wanted list in the nation if I'm not mistaken.

Wow, that's the first time I've heard of that aspect of a double life!! I thought I had heard it all, and even lived my own double life when I was younger fooling with women and dabbling in the streets. I guess I'm living a double life now with this undercover apostate thing, but never have I heard of a double life on the politically active end of hidden activities when away from the meetings!!!!
I'd say personally, my views tend to swing more conservative judicially, socially, and fiscally, however my instincts and experiences in life tell me that life is so complex that we have to be yielding and flexible, hence the need for being liberal to some degree. Personally speaking, when I hear or see someone yelling about "the liberals!", I pretty much disregard anything they have to say at that point. My experiences tell me they got their talking points from Fox or a Talk Radio personality and that they haven't given whatever political subject a thorough examination. As a JW going apostate I think I have experience in this regard. I can critique the Trinity, or even defend and explain 607 to 1914, and take ton of other proWT points and defend them, but I couldn't necessarily prove the other side wrong with no room for them to come back on. Looking at the WT apologists that come on here like Eggnog and how they get smashed, speaks volumes to how limited their knowledge really is. The same can be said when it comes to those that identify themsevles as Republicans, Libetarians, Democrats, or whatever affiliation they carry. Nothing is black and white in this world when it comes to social and political matters.
Something else I should mention is, I hate politicians. Absolutely detest them, and I believe the JW upbringing plays a significant role into that. My fathers very resentful attitude towards white people and what he views as this system of things the Devil has created through them plays a role into that as well. Despite whatever my political and social views might be, if I stopped being a JW tonight, the chances of me registering to vote are slim to none. I'd rather join NAMBLA. I'm joking, I'm joking. Being honest, there are very few politicians and pundits that I can tolerate.
Speaking of those I can tolerate, Mike Huckabee just announced he's not running. You know a couple months ago I thought Obama was a lame duck, or someone was gonna put a hole in his head, but I'm starting to think he's going to be a two-termer.

based on certain families who i've known personally in the "truth", there was infidelity which resulted in children out of wedlock, drug abuse, abortion (involving an elder's teenager), verbal, emotional, & physical abuse (by parents and spouses), and dependence on public assistance.

The reason why I asked this question is that Witnesses (at least some of the ones I know personally) portray themselves one way, but it seems like several are more messed up than the typical "nonbeliever" or "worldly" person. I know that everyone is human and will make mistakes from time to time, but it's interesting that certain Witnesses have displayed worst behavior than any non-Witness I have ever known.
I hear you, and definately know what you mean. That's one of the things I hate about this religion is the appearances factor. JWs aren't any better than any other group of people out here. Let the WT tell it, nobody died in the holocaust except JWs, nobody dresses modestly escept JWs, nobody has happy marriages except JWs, worldy people are unhappy, but JWs are happified. It's all bull crap. When they print that tripe, all they do is set themselves and JWs up for failure because they're trying to live up to some unrealistic expectation all the while jumbling all the theocratic crap thats expected of them. In that respect thats the one thing I believe contributes to more dysfunctional behavior than nonJW families. NonJW families don't have to be pressured and guilt tripped into attending meetings or field service. It's irritating coming home after a hard day of work or school on a Thursday night knowing you have to get ready to go to some friggin meeting.
As far as JWs displaying behavior worse than nonJWs, I recall something my father was telling me about a COBOE and his wife. My father knows some nonJWs who know this COBOE and his wife. This nonJW was at a reception or anniversary party of some sort, and the COBOE and his wife attended. The nonJW told my father that this COBOE and his wife drank more than everyone else there. To top it off, this nonJW said that the COBOE and his wife are always preaching to them about the benefits of being a JW. He found it hypocritical to say the least.
